Device Reutilization

What is Device Reutilization?

Device reutilization includes both the repair and recycling of equipment, as well as exchange programs. Device repair and recycling programs are those in which pre-owned devices are restored and then offered to consumers as recycled products. Device exchange programs involve the arrangement of purchase of the pre-owned item directly from the current owner to the consumer.

Why is Device Reutilization important?

Device reutilization is important to consumers and family members because of the increasing numbers of individuals who need equipment, have limited or no access to assistive devices and can benefit from the abundance of used equipment currently available.

Back in Action

Back in Action was launched through the Richard West Assistive Technology Advocacy Center of DRNJ as an interactive exchange of devices. This website includes walkers, wheelchairs, power scooters, text telephones, adaptive computer software, and other equipment. Currently, over 100 items are listed, with many items being offered at minimal to no cost.

Anyone can post free classified ads through Back In Action with a description and/or picture of the item for sale. Additionally, individuals may search for needed equipment and post want ads or e-mail alerts when an item is not listed.
